Discount codes are still available for registering for ApacheCon, and we have plenty of free events. Tips on actually getting here:

Pack layers; the weather is a beautiful sunny 70degF days/50degF nights.

From SFO and OAK, take the BART light rail trains to the 12th Street Oakland City Center stop. From OAK, you’ll first take the AirBART bus to the BART station, which requires $3 exact change on the bus.

The Bay Bridge is open once again, so you can drive, although the BART is highly recommended unless you need assistance.

The Marriott hotel tower is kittycorner/diagonally across the street from the 12th street BART station – it’s closer than you think.

All conference events are in the Convention Center, which is in the same building as the Marriott: walk through the reception area around and past the escalators to the second floor conference rooms.

Sessions and Meetups are held on the first floor main conference halls, and in the 200-series rooms on the second floor of the convention center.

ApacheCon has featured a number of events commemorating the 10th anniversary of the founding of The Apache Software Foundation. We’ll be featuring “asf10years” events throughout the year, culminating with some very special stuff at ApacheCon US 2009 in Oakland, 2-6 November.

Some of the 10th anniversary items we’ve posted this week include:

Chairman’s letter officially commemorating 10th anniversary

The official Foundation blog (PRC organizing high-level posts)

Blog post about the 10th anniversary celebrations (we’re hoping to get a lot of comments on this one)

https://blogs.apache.org/foundation/entry/the_asf_is_ten_years

Live streaming of keynotes, lunch talks, founder’s panel

Note: there’s a delay of several days, but our video streaming partner Linux Magazine will be putting all the video content (free and paid) into their archive. Stay tuned for a note when it’s available in the archive, but several of these talks are definitely worth watching again.

Tip: there will also be a video or two of us – all the ApacheCon attendees – signing Happy Birthday to Apache.
